The four-storey building, housing a vast and airy atrium, that forms the pivotal centralised highly specified featured Jewel Box theatre, is merged by two cutting-edge industry-standard theatres, film studios, media, computing and editing suites, plus recording and photography studios, dance studios and rehearsal rooms as well as bespoke practical spaces for hospitality, media make-up and special effects. It also includes a 40-seat restaurant, which is run by students.
Due to the complex nature of the end product requirement, the project required a high-end obligation for enhanced fire and acoustic performance, consisting of 18 differing wall types, 11 internal and external wall lining and encasement systems and 14 diverse ceilings and rafts.
British Gypsum products were utilised for all metal stud partitions, beam encasements, mass barrier ceilings and MF ceilings including perforated board.
Rockfon Tropic and Hygienic exposed lay in grid ceilings were installed to the teaching areas.
Ecophon Solo rafts were strategically placed within the double height lecture rooms.
SAS 205 system formed the corridor ceilings, and the kitchen and mezzanine levels received the SAS 740 system with acoustic infills.
